Modern art and timeless ocean views at this renowned art institution

Recently reopened to the public, The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego is the shining jewel in the local art scene’s crown, and a standout among La Jolla museums. It focuses on preserving and exhibiting works of art from the 1950s to the present. It’s a sister museum to the MCASD downtown, which is housed in the former Santa Fe Depot baggage building.

Though the artwork contained within this sleek, modern facility is no doubt impressive, it’s the breathtaking ocean views serving as a backdrop that make this particular museum so beloved. View permanent and special exhibitions from pivotal modern artists spanning mediums that include painting, sculpture, photography, and more. Then take a break on the outdoor terrace overlooking La Jolla’s glittering coastline.

The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. from Thursday through Sunday. Admission is $25 for adults, $15 for students and seniors, and free for people 17 and under.
