More than 5,000 fish contained in more than 60 habitats, not to mention a breathtaking oceanfront location, make the Birch Aquarium at Scripps a top attraction in San Diego. Marvel at tank after tank of aquatic life and learn about Southern California’s unique coastal and marine environments. 

A new Birch Aquarium exhibit opened in summer 2022, the Beyster Family Little Blue Penguins habitat is a unique display. In fact, no other aquarium in the Western U.S. houses this species of bird. Also new to the aquarium is the Seadragons & Seahorses exhibit, housing Weedy Seadragons and several species of seahorses and pipefish. Be sure to check out the Giant Kelp Forest, Shark Shores, and most notably, the Tide Pool Plaza, an outdoor hands-on exhibit overlooking the stunning La Jolla coastline.

Birch aquarium tickets are $24.95 for adults and $19.95 for kids, with discounts for students and military members.
