How to Celebrate California Wine Month in La Jolla

September 14, 2022

As one of the world’s most respected wine producing regions, the Golden State has a lot to celebrate in September during California Wine Month. This event highlights the richness and uniqueness of wine from our beautiful state and presents an opportunity to learn more about California wine regions and local vineyards, as well as sample different varietals. In honor of this month long tradition, we’ve put together a few ideas for how to celebrate California Wine Month, curated especially for guests of Cormorant Boutique Hotel

Enjoy Great Wine and Spectacular Views at Birdseye in La Jolla

Though it’s not likely you would have missed out on our ocean-view rooftop restaurant and bar under any circumstance, the solid selection of California wine is yet another reason to hightail it to this fourth-floor hot spot. As you lay your eyes on one of the best views in town, you can enjoy Argentinian-inspired fare and sip on a glass of Robert Mondavi Merlot, Bonanza Cabernet Sauvignon, or, if you prefer white wine, Coppola Pinot Grigio.

Shop for Wine at Prospect Market

Not in the mood to venture outside of the comfort of your own little slice of La Jolla heaven? Plan to enjoy a glass of wine on your private balcony while you admire Pacific Ocean panoramas. Simply head to Prospect Market on the first floor of Cormorant, next to the lobby. There you’ll find a nice selection of California wines, including Hungry Blonde Chardonnay,  J. Lohr Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc, Reaburn Chardonnay, and Avalon Red Blend. You can also get snacks like cheese, crackers, and chocolate to enjoy with your wine.

Check Out Wine Wednesday at We Olive La Jolla

Wednesday is a prime night to visit We Olive La Jolla, located on Prospect Street just a few minutes’ walk from Cormorant Boutique Hotel. That’s because this charming local wine bar offers half off all wine bottles all day on Wednesdays. Sample small production artisan wines while snacking on olive-oil inspired small plates. As you dine and sip, you can enjoy beautiful ocean views.

Head to Blue Door Urban Winery in Pacific Beach

Curious about the winemaking process? Head to this neighborhood wine production facility to learn about the techniques they use and sample a few different types of wine. With a tasting room open in the evenings and plentiful parking, it’s a great place to pop in for a glass of vino and good conversations with other oenophiles.

Tour Temecula Wineries

Located just an hour from La Jolla, Temecula is a major wine destination home to nearly 50 wineries spread throughout the gorgeous terrain. With year-round sunshine and little rain, this powerhouse winemaking region boasts ideal conditions for growing wine grapes. Choose a few stops and plan to spend a little time learning about various varietals, local history, and the winemaking traditions of some of the best wineries in Temecula. And of course, safety first—plan to take along a designated driver or sign up for a tour that will transport you to various Temecula wineries.
