The Cormorant Boutique Hotel started off in the mid-1940s as the Prospect Market, the only market in the beachfront community of La Jolla Village.
In the 1960s, hotel rooms were added to the market, and the business operated as La Jolla Inn for several decades. The property has undergone a top-to-bottom renovation, and the inn has been transformed into the contemporary, modern Cormorant Boutique Hotel, which features a minimalist vibe, unobstructed panoramic ocean views, and La Jolla’s hottest lounge and bar, the Birdseye, on the remodeled rooftop. The hotel’s unique name comes from the bird that shares our La Jolla home, the cormorant. These black birds, which look a little like ducks, are native to La Jolla Cove, where they can usually be found roosting on the bluffs above. In the immediate area, you’re likely to see double-crested cormorants and Brandt’s cormorants. Brandt’s cormorants are a bit larger, and they have purple or bright blue skin on their faces, while double-crested cormorants’ faces are usually yellow, and they have astonishingly shimmering blue eyes. La Jolla is a world-class destination that offers visitors a small-town feel. Guests can enjoy the contemporary décor and modern feel of our rooftop bar and lounge overlooking the beautiful waters of the Pacific Ocean, or they may choose to bask in the scenic views and coastal breeze on their own private balconies. The Cormorant Boutique Hotel enjoys an ideal beachfront location in the heart of La Jolla, within walking distance of a vast range of shops, outdoor activities, and the famous La Jolla Cove. Whether you're here to create memories with your family on vacation or you’re with your sweetheart for a romantic getaway, you’ll enjoy the ultimate unforgettable Southern California experience at the Cormorant Boutique Hotel.

Prospect Market has served the community for more than 70 years. In fact, the Cormorant Boutique Hotel began as Prospect Market in the mid-1940s, when it was the only market in the beachfront community of La Jolla Village.
